Second-to-Last Day: Party Bureaucracies, Power of Attorney, Gifts, and Packing #011

Municipal elections are coming up soon here in Brazil. I don't know what got into me, but I signed up to help with the opposition party's campaign against the current mayor. Today, I got stuck at the bank trying to open a donation account for the party. Someone else will take over from me to continue the work (which I haven't really started, since the authorization to begin the campaign and rallies only came a few days ago). Anyway, I did this mostly to help my mother because there's been some persecution from the current mayor's administration against her. She's a civil servant working as a social worker for the city, and these past years have been tough for her.

I went to the city notary office to get a power of attorney, which is a document that gives someone else the legal right to represent you in your absence. Right off the bat, it cost me R$100, and tomorrow I'll go back with my mother to sign the papers (and pay more money). I don’t have any debt or big pending issues. I don’t own any valuable assets like a car, property, etc., so I’m leaving without worries. I just want to get this document to ensure I won’t need to come back.

Today, I received a beautiful shirt from a teacher and some sweets. I really appreciate her kindness; it made me feel very special.

I've practically finished packing 95% of my things. I’ll have to leave some clothes and shoes behind because they won’t fit in my suitcase, but I can buy whatever I need there.

Last night sleeping in my bed; tomorrow begins the journey to a new life.
